Organic or Non Organic – Which do YOU go for?
Yes ‘they’ tell us we should be eating all organic and non organic is ‘bad’ for us but…
Organic isn’t cheap and if you’ve got a family of 4 to feed that weekly food bill can be extortionate!
So…
Do you REALLY need to ‘go organic’?
When it comes to MEAT,
Organic is a good choice because it avoids the meat from animals being exposed to the SYNTHETIC HORMONES that non-organic livestock are generally treated with throughout their life cycle.
**see pic above**
When it comes to PRODUCE,
The benefit of buying organic is to avoid ingesting PESTICIDES and CHEMICALS that are generally used on non-organic fruits and vegetables.
Foods such as:
Melon
Bananas
Oranges
Avocados
Grapefruits
Have a THICK skin barrier between the outside world and the fruit itself so the pesticides never come into contact with the fruit that you eat and these are fruits where the skin is usually thrown away.
Other fruits where you EAT the skin, you’re better opting for organic.
Foods such as:
Pears
Apples
Peaches
Tomatoes
TIP:
There’s also some veggies that pests simply aren’t attracted to due to their high sulphur content such as:
Broccoli
Cabbage
Onions
Garlic
So the take home is….
Don’t bother spending the EXTRA cash on veggies that aren’t typically treated with pesticides or that have a THICK skin.
Spend money where there’s benefit and pinch your pennies when there’s not!
Like tomatoes?
